How I work

Not just another photographer

Over my 20 years of being a professional photographer I’ve learned what works for my clients, and what doesn’t. I’ve learned that there’s no point in me just turning up on the day, snapping away at anything that moves (or stays still long enough), then sending you a series of so-so images that are ….just OK. You may get an accurate record of the event, but that’s all.

Photography is about so much more than that. My job is to capture moods and emotions, and I find I get the best results when you and I get to know each other well in advance. If I’m to create images to treasure for years to come, with memories you’ll want to relive over and over again, then we’ll need to work together.

Weddings

For weddings I’ll ask you to complete a detailed questionnaire in advance that covers everything from timings, venues, hair and makeup arrangements, caterers, music and beyond. I will have all the timings mapped out so I know precisely where I need to be and when. I follow the whole day, from the bride and bridesmaids getting ready, to the last dance. I will capture the formal photos and the behind-the-scenes details that most people miss. I get to the venue early to photograph the setting, chat to the suppliers, get the running order from the DJ. Nothing is left to chance. After all, this is your day, and I want it to be perfect just as much as you do.

Bar & Bat Mitzvahs

For Bar and Bat Mitzvahs I’ll ask you all about the Bar/Bat Mitzvah. I’d love to know something about their personality, their school, their hobbies and interests and their friends. This will help make sure I capture their personalities and character so that the images are a true representation of who they are at this important stage of their life, and what they mean to you. I’ll also need details of the venue, the family members who’ll be in attendance, the plans for the reception and party. If you also want me to photograph the rehearsal then I’ll need the details of the synagogue so that I can liaise with the Rabbi too.

Parties

For parties and events we can either meet in person or have a long chat over the phone so that I can capture all the relevant details in advance. We’ll agree the style of photography you want and the requirements for any formal or group shots. On the day I’ll arrive at the venue early so that I can scope out the lie of the land and get the detail shots. Then I’ll stay to the end (or for as long as you need me) so that everything and everyone is included!

Families

For Family photo shoots I’ll need the details of everyone who is going to be in the pictures – their names, ages etc. We’ll discuss which indoor or outdoor venue you want to use, or I’ll recommend one that I’ve used before and I know works. I’ll send you an information sheet that will give you tips about what to wear. On the day I’ll have a supply of sweet treats for the kids (that are vegetarian, gluten free, halal and kosher) and enough toys and gizmos to get their attention at exactly the right moment. (For example, I’ll have a fluffy toy on the end of my lens – guaranteed to raise a smile from even the most reluctant subject!). For Cake Smashes we’ll agree the background colours that coordinate with baby’s outfit. And I’ll provide the cake!

Corporate

For product photography we’ll discuss in advance what products I’ll be photographing – what they do, who they’re for and how they work. And what you want the images to “say” to your customers.  I’ll ask you for the details of your branding: colours, fonts, logos, tone and style. Plus we’ll discuss any additional props we could use to perhaps demonstrate the product in action.

For professional headshots we’ll discuss how many you need and what they’re going to be used for. I’ll give you hints about outfits – what to wear and what to avoid – plus polite and well-meaning tips on personal grooming beforehand!

All photo shoots are subject to a contract. For more information about any of my photography packages or for an informal chat, please get in touch.
