Photographing your family, naturally

Your family is important to you and it’s great to be able to document how your family unit grows and changes over the years. I offer two types of family photography: an indoor or outdoor photo shoot with the whole family, or a Cake Smash to celebrate baby’s first birthday

Family photo shoot 

My family photography is relaxed, fun and informal. No standing around in studios here – we can head outdoors (in wellies if necessary!) to your garden, your local park or the woods that you and your kids love. Or we stay indoors in the room that the whole family loves and pictures whenever they think of “home”. You choose the place that’s special to you, or I can recommend somewhere that looks great according to the time of year. 

Outdoor photography is great fun for children and adults alike. I find that children especially can be intimidated by the presence of a photographer. But when we go outdoors to their favourites spaces and they immerse themselves in nature something magical happens. We get hysterical laughter instead of vacant expressions and forced smiles. We get natural daylight instead of artificial lighting. We get children jumping around instead of fidgeting on a chair. 

No doubt you spend a lot of time taking photos of your kids. But my family photography sessions mean that for once YOU get in the photo too. Mums especially can be self-conscious about being photographed and tend to shy away from the camera when it’s pointed at them.

But with my family photo shoot I can help you relax and just enjoy being with your loved ones, out in nature or at home and relishing your time with them. I’ll take photos from all different angles, using nature for props. I’ll capture all the smiles, giggles, hugs and pulled faces. My goal is to show your family – all of you - having fun, communicating and relaxing.

Baby Cake Smash photo shoot

I love a Cake Smash photo shoot! It’s a unique way to celebrate baby’s first birthday. They are always lots of messy fun and create the most wonderfully endearing images you’ll want to keep forever – and perhaps bring out on their wedding day!

The idea is to put a cake in front of baby and let them loose on it while I snap away! The result will be a series of delightful scenes with baby smothered in frosting as he or she tucks into the sponge and generally makes a mess.  

Setting and prop-wise I like to keep things simple so that the focus is on your little one. I will always try to match the backdrop to baby’s outfit, so that’s something we’ll discuss in advance. The shoot takes place in your home so we’ll also pick a room where the furniture can be well out of the way, or least covered over – just in case!
